"The ongoing saga of national sprint car racing added another chapter over the weekend. A new group named the National Sprint Tour (NST) announced intentions to form a national touring sprint-car group. In effect, the NST will take over where the now-defunct National Sprint Car League left off. Fred Brownfield of Brownfield Promotions, is heading up the NST, and has some of the top sprint-car racers in his corner.

Listed as supporters of the NST are Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Jason Meyers, Brian Paulus, Shane Stewart, Tim Shaffer, Brandon Wimmer, Jason Solwald, Jason Sides, Lucas Wolfe and the Volcano Joe's Coffee No. 2 car, which doesn't yet have a driver. "

"The 'Silly Season' continued when it was announced that teen sensation Lucas Wolfe will move to the new National Sprint Car League next season.

Stock-car legend's company will run competitor to World of Outlaws series

Seven-time NASCAR champion Richard Petty drove stock cars during his racing career, but he can't wait for the next sprint car season to begin.
Petty's company, the Richard Petty Driving Experience, will debut the National SprintCar League that has secured the gem pieces from the World of Outlaws.

The NSL has commitments from Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski, team owner Tony Stewart and Eldora Speedway, among others, to switch series. Most of the details have yet to be announced, but during a quiet moment at last weekend's Nextel Cup race at Kansas Speedway, Petty vowed to play an active role in developing the series.

"Anything that's got my money in it, you can bet I'll be involved with" he said. "I'm as excited as a kid with a new toy."

“Absolutely. It's going to be a great deal. The good thing is knowing that Kyle (Petty) and Richard (Petty) are doing it for the right reasons. Having the confidence in your sanctioning body is half the battle right there and that's something that we didn't have with the former group."

Was it a tough decision to take your team from world of outlaws to the national sprint car league?

"Well, the World of Outlaws isn't the same World of Outlaws that it was five or 10 years ago. You're just leaving the name. That's the bad part about it. But you've got to do what's right for your race team."

Richard Petty Driving Experience, a leader in providing high quality motorsports entertainment, announced the formation of the National SprintCar League. Steve Kinser, 19 - time World of Outlaws series champion, and 11 other current World of Outlaws drivers and teams have joined the newly formed NSL beginning in 2006.

The NSL has signed the following twelve current World of Outlaws series drivers and teams to 3-year agreements beginning with the 2006 season: Steve Kinser, Jason Meyers, Kraig Kinser, Danny “The Dude” Lasoski, Tim Shaffer, Paul McMahan, Joey Saldana, Jason Sides, Brian Paulus, Brandon Wimmer, Shane Stewart and Jason Solwold. The series has also received commitments from 3 - time World of Outlaws series champion Sammy Swindell, 16 - time World of Outlaws championship car owner Karl Kinser and long time team owner Dennis Roth to run in 2006.

“We looked at acquiring this series a couple of years ago,” said Kyle Petty, CEO of Petty Enterprises. “The foundation of drivers, owners, tracks, sponsors and fans combined with the Petty family of partners and resources is the primary reason for our desire to create this series. We are especially excited that Nextel Cup points leader Tony Stewart has joined our series as a team owner and track promoter. Wow, talk about a silly season! There's nothing like some good drama right here at the end of the racing season, and that appears to be just what sprint car racing has.

While official reports remain sketchy, a new sprint car series is being formed for the 2006 racing season and plans to go head-to-head with DIRT Motorsports and the World of Outlaws.Heading the list of drivers switching over to the newly formed National Sprint Car League is the King of the Outlaws — Steve Kinser.

The NSL is being spearheaded by several individuals including Barry Graham, Brian Heeley, Richard and Kyle Petty and the Petty Group, but so far 12 drivers have signed up to follow the tour in 2006.WoO regular Jason Meyers was on John Katich's Full Throttle Racing show on Tuesday night and explained why the new series is being started. Meyers is very excited about the new direction of the sport.An official announcement is planned for Friday.On the other side of the fence, DIRT Motorsports announced this week that they have signed five drivers for 2006 to follow the World of Outlaws tour.Craig Dollansky, Donny Schatz, Daryn Pittman, Terry McCarl and Brooke Tatnell have agreed to stay on board for next year. The program also tells how DIRT Motorsports built the tour to 18 traveling teams compared to what was in years past.

Dollansky was also a guest on the Full Throttle show on Tuesday and gave points as to why he remains dedicated to the World of Outlaws.The Outlaws recently secured up to 50 weeks of prime time programming on the Outdoor Channel for the 2006, but word is that SPEED will be involved with the new series in some form.Of course there will be good and bad that go along with both series and the direction 410 Sprint car racing goes in the future.A split happened years ago but the Outlaws have lived on through even some bad times.

So for now, we will save our opinions and hope that the best possible situation for 410 Sprint car racing growth comes out of this. Who knows, maybe in a month or two, we will be back to talking about just one touring series but for now, we have the World of Outlaws, National Sprint Car League and don't forget the Haulmark All Stars.
